Where are the values in media? I turn on the television to see plumped up, surgically enhanced women with less than mediocre brain cells; men attempting to discover their sexuality and sexual orientation in the most public, degrading and humiliating way; children being abducted, raped, beaten or caught in the cross-fire of their family's ignorance; destruction of landmarks, monuments and historical artistic creativity; all blasted world-wide, nation wide and throughout each country. We are all watching our world change for the worst right before our eyes. How? Through our media. Ratings have become more important than values. The more drama, nudity , sex and violence shown to the world means more profit for the television industry. Who cares what the children of our future learn from television? I wonder... Will they learn how to find the perfect surgeon to make them look like who ever they want to that month; how to commit a violent crime and get away with it; or how to mix and use drugs from media outlets?
I remember a time where children learned their A,B,C's and 1,2,3's from watching television. The media would also portray working-class families, show realistic consequences for negative behaviors, positive role models and holiday family traditions. Now, it's very slim pickens when attempting to find a family show on prime time television appropriate for every age. Talk shows broadcast during the day, then you may catch an after-school special before the evening news takes over. Then.....what family show do you find appropriate if you are a middle to low-class family without the perks of cable? Some media networks are trying to get their values in order as far as programming, but they are creeping like turtles! In the meantime, we are losing our children to the ideas of "any one can have a life like the Kardashians for the right price", there will be no realistic consequences for a violent/criminal action, love is just a word, be disrespectful to elders or take what you want, don't work for it.
Parents need to explain to their children the difference between famous people and common people with realistic lifestyles. Parents should lead by example, because children REALLY do follow after their parents. As an adult, don't you STILL do or say some of the things your parents displayed or said? It's an old, but very true saying. Spend as much time with your children and other children as often as possible. They long for and need attention from their parents! Let's get back to the village raising or helping to raise our children. In conclusion, while the media is losing their values, WE don't have to! The familial structure and love within it will lead each person toward their true destiny. Thus, using their knowledge of fake or famous vs. the real deal to determine their right path.
