The Blah Reputation- Cosby, Kelly and Brown

The Blah Reputation

The black male role models’ reputation has gone from extremely positive to Blah!  No sugar coating, just plain Blah!  Bill Cosby, Robert Kelly and Chris Brown unequivocally fall into this category.  These men were all famous actors, producers, dancers, singers, comedians and/or songwriters for decades.  Yet, their reputations have gone to Blah over alleged and convictions for sexual assault, underage sexual acts, battery and a list of other charges depending on the male in question.  Society is so divided and confused, Blah fits perfectly!

Let’s start with Bill Cosby’s summary.  He began his career in the 1960’s as a stand-up comedian.  Later going on to become an actor, musician, author and producer.  Many remember something they have seen, read or watched involving Mr. Cosby.  He had 5 children and one marriage (Camille) while obtaining a Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate Degree.  The allegations of sexually related incidents began in 1965.  Since then, more than 60 women have come forward accusing Bill Cosby of either drugging them, performing sexual acts on them or both.  In 2010, there was an allegation and investigation into sexual battery, assault and a host of other related charges against Mr. Cosby.  Only to later be charged and convicted in 2018 of 3 counts of aggravated indecent assault.  Blah!

Robert Kelly or R. Kelly began his career in the late 1990s.  He has won Grammy awards and other world-renown recognition for his career as a singer, record producer, songwriter and basketball career.  His first situation began in 1994 with the alleged marriage of R. Kelly and underage Aaliyah.  Following the controversy, he married Andrea in 1996.  They had 3 children together.  In 1997, Mr. Kelly was convicted of battery.  The next year, he settled out of court for $250,000 in a case involving sex with an underage female.  The infamous sex tape and child porn allegation were dropped in 2002.  Recently Mr. Kelly has been accused of having a sex ring in his home including forcing girls to stay in his home to perform sexual acts. Blah!

Lastly, Mr. Chris Brown has the biggest Blah Reputation.  He started his career at age 15 in 2002.  More success followed for Chris while furthering his career as a singer, rapper, actor, dancer and songwriter.  The trouble began publicly in 2009 with the conviction for felonious assault.  This was due to the beating up of Rihanna after a televised award ceremony.  In 2011, Mr. Brown had an outburst and destroyed property at the Good Morning America studios.  Chris Brown seemed to be on a downward spiral after the incident at GMA.  He had a fight with Drake, altercation with Frank Ocean, a misdemeanor in Washington D.C., kicked out of rehab in 2014, probation violation; alleged assaulting and holding a female hostage in his home and his latest was a judge granting a restraining order against in from Karruche Tran in 2017.  All this while having a daughter named Royalty.

Why have these men fallen in the Blah Reputation category?  Is this a result of too much power?  Fame?  Narcissism?  Despite what it is Mr. Cosby, Kelly and Brown have created bad blemishes for black men in history.  See the confusion society has with these men and their reputations?  The biggest question:   Are they remorseful for their actions they’ve been convicted of?  Well, all three men continued to do concerts or other show appearances throughout some parts of their trials.  The men would speak on the current situation negatively including the mocking of witnesses at times and/or laughing for the cameras when questioned about the allegations.  The understanding of the repercussions of their convictions has not been realized by any of these men.  How are our young men supposed to look at these “role models” now? Some peers of these individuals have written them off as bad seeds, sex addicts, or much worse.  Society has its separate opinion of Blah!  One last thought:  Considering all the negativity going on in the world today, Is Revelations among us?

Social Media and Our Own Values

The television, computer, cell phone and advertising media has changed the belief system for some Americans.  There are schools across the world teaching computer technology (with social media examples) over religion, cultural differences and unity among all.  Additionally, people are more exposed to the harshness of reality and mimicking what they see.  How do people see more violence, hatred, body shaming, drug abuse/overdoses, money glorification and sexual immorality?  Mostly through the media!      The stories about Serena Williams and Les Moonves (CBS former CEO and Executive) have taken  over the social media scene this past weekend.  They have crossed all different topics such as race relations, sports, history, women's rights, violence, sexuality, embarrassment, LOVE, RESPECT, honesty, fear, acknowledgment, trust, lies, misconduct, power abuse, working class, sexual aggression, family, mother/daug...

Are politics being run by fame, notoriety and wealth?

Are politics being run by fame, notoriety and wealth?                                                 The world today is different compared to just a year ago.   Everyone seems to be touchy and sensitive about everything.   Some people are marching just to be marching with their friends, not knowing the true cause. If a celebrity is doing it, he/she is more likely, going to have a following.   The fame, notoriety and wealth status has led to the election of our most recent president.   Realistically, hos moral character was not a factor relating to his election!   The more fame he gained from his political fight came from the misconception about his many business ventures.   Highlighting the word misconception because majority of pe...

Our Youth's Education is at Risk!

There was a woman (race not important for this) on television the other day.  She was being interviewed by a female reporter.  Forgive me, I can't recall the station nor the show because the content grabbed my attention instantly!  The middle-aged woman was crying to the reporter.  The woman told the reporter she did not want to tell her students to go to college.  Yes, the middle aged woman was a teacher!  She continued by saying she couldn't bare to see the faces of her students when they found out she lied about their futures.  The teacher stated if she told them going to college would lead to a successful career and a great life, she would be lying.  When in reality, she further spoke, a person graduates from college with tremendous debt, working a underpaying job, and struggling to balance family time vs. work to pay bills time.         I had to sit back and...
