Depression and Social Media

Depression and Social Media
Selena Gomez has taken a break from social media due to a mental breakdown.  People are assuming she had the breakdown because her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber became engaged to Hailey Baldwin.  A small number of people have considered the fact she recently had a kidney transplant and is battling Lupus.  She has also admitted to the media she has battled with depression.  The girl is only 27 or 28 years old!  Plus she is a famous singer among other things.  Miss Gomez has a lot more to deal with other than thinking about Mr. Bieber getting engaged.  Yes, it may be on her mind but more than likely, one of the last things.

Depression is real!  More than 18 million people suffer from depression, according to Hope for Depression Research Foundation.  If you are not experiencing some form of depression, you know someone who is.  Medication, therapy and other forms of treatment are out there to help people deal with depression.  The thing is can people other than celebrities or the upper class afford these treatments on a consistent basis?  Transportation has to be considered as well.  Who are we kidding?  The epidemic of depression in America needs to be addressed as far up as the White House!  Yet, we are entertaining the likes of Mr. West and Mrs. Kardashian-West.  Did I miss something?  Or maybe I’m just too depressed to see the reality of what’s going on.

Not having a man or a woman does not have anything to do with why someone may be depressed. There are many people who have a significant other standing right by their side through the whole ordeal.  They may be depressed for health reasons, due to a death of a loved one, a change in life, a career change, anything that affects them drastically.  Instead of placing the blame of where the depression came from on something thought up, let’s have a listening ear for our friend or friends in need.  Take a look outside of ourselves, if we are doing fine.  Check on our neighbor to see if we can help with something.  What happened to just caring about our fellow man/woman?  Our mission as human beings should not be to make a person feel worse who is already feeling bad, exploit a person with a mental illness and/or use a person weakness for our own gain.  Ms. Gomez has left social media for her own personal reasons and people should give her space to heal.  This is the same respect any of us would want if we were in her shoes.

Social Media and Our Own Values

The television, computer, cell phone and advertising media has changed the belief system for some Americans.  There are schools across the world teaching computer technology (with social media examples) over religion, cultural differences and unity among all.  Additionally, people are more exposed to the harshness of reality and mimicking what they see.  How do people see more violence, hatred, body shaming, drug abuse/overdoses, money glorification and sexual immorality?  Mostly through the media!      The stories about Serena Williams and Les Moonves (CBS former CEO and Executive) have taken  over the social media scene this past weekend.  They have crossed all different topics such as race relations, sports, history, women's rights, violence, sexuality, embarrassment, LOVE, RESPECT, honesty, fear, acknowledgment, trust, lies, misconduct, power abuse, working class, sexual aggression, family, mother/daug...

Are politics being run by fame, notoriety and wealth?

Are politics being run by fame, notoriety and wealth?                                                 The world today is different compared to just a year ago.   Everyone seems to be touchy and sensitive about everything.   Some people are marching just to be marching with their friends, not knowing the true cause. If a celebrity is doing it, he/she is more likely, going to have a following.   The fame, notoriety and wealth status has led to the election of our most recent president.   Realistically, hos moral character was not a factor relating to his election!   The more fame he gained from his political fight came from the misconception about his many business ventures.   Highlighting the word misconception because majority of pe...

Our Youth's Education is at Risk!

There was a woman (race not important for this) on television the other day.  She was being interviewed by a female reporter.  Forgive me, I can't recall the station nor the show because the content grabbed my attention instantly!  The middle-aged woman was crying to the reporter.  The woman told the reporter she did not want to tell her students to go to college.  Yes, the middle aged woman was a teacher!  She continued by saying she couldn't bare to see the faces of her students when they found out she lied about their futures.  The teacher stated if she told them going to college would lead to a successful career and a great life, she would be lying.  When in reality, she further spoke, a person graduates from college with tremendous debt, working a underpaying job, and struggling to balance family time vs. work to pay bills time.         I had to sit back and...
