Teens, Parents and Respect

Yes, being a teenager is something different with every generation.  It is also the same in some areas per generation as well.  Parents learn very quickly how to raise a teenager.  The key word is: Challenge.  You knew it would be a challenge as soon as your "sweet baby" turned a teen.  The year 2019 has shown teenagers in a completely new territory.

Social media, video games, music/lyrics, music videos and cable shows take our teens away from the family unit.  The things teenagers are missing would shown them value, education, nature and other important lessons in life.  The ideology of fame and violence has some of our youth in a whole other world.  As I look around and observe people interacting, I'm shocked.  A 10 year old girl, who looked 15 years old and strings for an outfit, would be cursing at her mother.  Grandmothers would be barely walking themselves, while trying to hold on to a screaming toddler.  Stories like these have resonated with so many other people I speak with.  Why is this?  Is it because video games have become more addictive, violent and enabling?  Is it because of the lack of socialization?  This lack of socialization may hurt that teenager later on in the future.  Everything written above, as always, is just an opinion and some of my own personal observations.  Every teen is not the same and they do not react the same to every situation.

Other things like cable, music/lyrics/videos all show a different type of lifestyle teenagers want...or think they want.  If they can't get it, they will find someway to and by any means necessary.  They may be try gambling, drug use/selling, prostitution and more, until they can immolate their famous idol.  Teenagers, know what you are watching.  Be aware of what's real and what's just for show.  Ask questions to someone you trust before you decide to do anything.  Be comfortable with yourself and lastly, be yourself.  Parents of teens, please do not forget you were once a teenager as well and did some off the wall things.  An open communication relationship should be the goal.  Ask questions as well.  Don't shy away from sliding your beliefs/values in, but don't be judgmental.  You raise your children to be the best they can be, so let them.  Be support, yet cautious.

Overall, the entertainment business has an objective to  make money anyway they can.  Parents can start at home with placing a value background into their children on a daily bases.  Teaching them values, self-respect, how to treat others and mostly their respect toward parents (authority).  Teenagers have to understand their role as a child to their parent and the automatic respect that entails.

Our Youth's Education is at Risk!

There was a woman (race not important for this) on television the other day.  She was being interviewed by a female reporter.  Forgive me, I can't recall the station nor the show because the content grabbed my attention instantly!  The middle-aged woman was crying to the reporter.  The woman told the reporter she did not want to tell her students to go to college.  Yes, the middle aged woman was a teacher!  She continued by saying she couldn't bare to see the faces of her students when they found out she lied about their futures.  The teacher stated if she told them going to college would lead to a successful career and a great life, she would be lying.  When in reality, she further spoke, a person graduates from college with tremendous debt, working a underpaying job, and struggling to balance family time vs. work to pay bills time.         I had to sit back and...

Social Media and Our Own Values

The television, computer, cell phone and advertising media has changed the belief system for some Americans.  There are schools across the world teaching computer technology (with social media examples) over religion, cultural differences and unity among all.  Additionally, people are more exposed to the harshness of reality and mimicking what they see.  How do people see more violence, hatred, body shaming, drug abuse/overdoses, money glorification and sexual immorality?  Mostly through the media!      The stories about Serena Williams and Les Moonves (CBS former CEO and Executive) have taken  over the social media scene this past weekend.  They have crossed all different topics such as race relations, sports, history, women's rights, violence, sexuality, embarrassment, LOVE, RESPECT, honesty, fear, acknowledgment, trust, lies, misconduct, power abuse, working class, sexual aggression, family, mother/daug...

Deteriorating City

Deteriorating City                         The silent manipulation unfolding among our creation Violence rising, adultery exposed, children shot as they sleep, teens die waiting for a ride to be educated, elderly beaten while just trying to enjoy independence. We watch as surrounding buildings crumble, monuments are distorted with graffiti; gangbangers rob the poor and needy. Shameful actions covered by joyful expressions of so-called power. Mimicking what has been seen, displayed, shown, mocked by small snippets of television faction or media competition for action. Information to some, ignored by none.                Lives taken for granted by no one age group                specifically.         ...
